After having coming across multiple incidents of fraud and rip-off by Freelancer.com website, I decided to file a complaint with BBB and have won the claim. I am writing you my issue in short.

Many of my employers who created projects hoping to get their websites done, paid money to Freelancer.com and ended up losing the money.

I will explain you what happens. They create a project for free, you award the project to a Freelancer, he works for you and when its time to pay him is where you have the problem. You will be made to wait 30 to 45 days and have to produce plenty of scanned documents to provide your bank cards, your bank account details. One of the funniest requirements is you will be asked to hold your passport in hand, credit cards hand, take photos of it as if you are being arrested and the police takes your photo.

Even after you do all these things which is worse than a real pain, the Freelancer charges hidden fees from you. And in case you end of talking to the support they will push a link and tell you that this is already mentioned in the website.

To give you a rough estimate. If you are an employer and wanted to get a website done for $1000, you end up paying $600 fees. The total cost for you will end up to $1600. And if you are a Freelancer, you only receive $820 as they charge 18% from a Freelancer.

There are plenty of easy and reliable Freelancer websites like upwork.com, toptal.com, guru.com and peopleperhour.com.

Never choose Freelancer.com, but if you are willing to take the pains of going through all the verification and ending up paying 60% fees, then you could choose Freelancer.com

I am full time Freelancer and I design high quality websites for various clients of mine. My clients range from small family businesses to publicly traded companies.

From mothers starting a home-based business to professional athletes in the NBA & PGA.
